INEOS screening request update
Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council have received a screening request from INEOS for a future test drilling planning application. The council is required to express a formal opinion on whether a planning application for potential drilling would require an environmental impact assessment. Having this assessment carried out is better for the village as it could potentially highlight factors that will stop INEOS' plans. Whilst no public consultation is required at this stage

Sir Kevin Barron MP Declared His Position on Fracking
Along with members of Harthill Against Fracking, I met with Kevin Barron and a couple of representatives of the Environment Agency this afternoon. Following our formal meeting we asked Kevin to declare his position on fracking. He said that he was elected on a manifesto pledge to stop fracking, he is personally against fracking and will do what he can to support us in getting the information we need to prevent it from happening in his constituency. He also undertook to table

Woodsetts mobilised against INEOS plans
Tonight we held a volunteer session for the Woodsetts Against Fracking group. The level of support, passion and skills of the residents that have stepped forward to take part in the fight against INEOS installing an exploratory well completely overwhelmed us. We have also had a number of people volunteer who could not make it tonight but wish to support the cause. Richard very eloquently explained that we are not “in charge”, but are just a group of people who have stepped fo

South Yorkshire Police view of the INEOS interim injunction
On Wednesday the Neighbourhood Patrol Group Constable Rick Revitt gave us the South Yorkshire Police (SYP) view of the interim injunction, which I now have available to share: 1. SYP did not ask for the interim injunction and played no part in the application 2. It is the responsibility of INEOS to progress any perceived breaches of the injunction 3. The injunction should not interfere with people carrying out their normal daily and community activities including the freedom

UK fracking may produce less fuel than claimed, says geologist
Fracking for oil and gas in the UK may produce much less fuel – and profits – than has been mooted, according to research based on seismic imaging of the country’s underlying geology. Most of the areas in which deposits of onshore “unconventional” gas and oil are likely to be found were affected by tectonic activity along the Atlantic plate about 55m years ago. Owing to the tilt of the UK and the folding of underground geological layers, the fossil fuel deposits have been dis

INEOS present to the Parish Council
We had a great turnout a the Parish Council to hear from the representatives of INEOS. Main set of questions were posed to their Chief Commercial Officer Lynn Calder. Residents had quite a number of questions posed to the INEOS team about environmental impact, the injunction, and their future plans. One of the main surprises from the discussion was about the traffic that this site would bring, which would be 60 HGV movements per day at the peak - coming through the village fr
